It’s understood that roughly 18 percent of the US, or about one in every five adults, has a type of anxiety disorder, be it post-traumatic stress disorder, panic attacks, OCD, or something entirely different. Since such a sizeable percentage of the United States population experiences these conditions, psychiatrists and scientists are diligently seeking new anxiety cures every single year. This is excellent news for millions who show the symptoms of such disorders and are curious about if there is anything that can be done about it.
Although there are pills that might calm a sufferer with any of these disorders, anxiety treatments are not easily found in a bottle. Drugs like Zoloft or Paxil might help a lot, but most people with these conditions are also suggested to have some type of cognitive or behavioral treatment as well.
One of the most important reasons that therapy is such an important part of any anxiety attack treatment is that while panic attacks could be initiated by chemical imbalances in the brain, it can also be activated by the manner in which people think and view events. For example, if they assume that new people they meet are bound to judge them harshly, then they might start to feel agoraphobia. By uncovering alternate and more wholesome ways of understanding upcoming social events or gatherings, then this alternative manner of thinking becomes part of their anxiety cure. The anxiety is scaled down if the person believes that meetings, lectures, speeches, and things similar to these will be a success. If they accept that new people will enjoy meeting them, then they will experience less anxiety.
These types of anxiety cures might help with a variety of other types of anxiety, such as panic attacks. If a person learns to believe that they are only going through an anxiety attack and that there actually is nothing the matter with them and nothing to be panicked about, this may help to lower the panic at least a little.
These forms of cognitive anxiety cures are not flawless and won’t be the solution in every case, however they may be helpful. While doctors labor to perfect their anxiety cures and medicines, creating alternate ways of thinking and of coping with this condition can go a long way toward helping one to get past it. If a person is not offered a perfect anxiety cure for their case, at minimum they can be certain that their disorder won’t unnecessarily interfere with their daily life.
